The Artwork

Royalties are paid to the Aboriginal artist for this original design.

The artwork featured on our Gugurmin Shorts is titled ‘Emu Dreaming’ or ‘Utinat Ritjinguthinha’ in the Kalkadoon language, created by Kalkadoon artist Chernee Sutton.

This design reflects the ancient connection of the Kalkadoon people to the stars and their deep understanding of the natural world. For thousands of years, Aboriginal people have looked to the sky to follow their dreaming tracks — songlines that map the land and the cosmos.

The story of the Emu in the Sky is a celestial guide, symbolising the time to collect emu eggs during autumn when the Milky Way rises high above Kalkadoon Country. This seasonal rhythm reminds us of sustainability, respect for nature, and the balance between taking and giving back to Country.

At Koru Apparel, we honour Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) by sharing these stories respectfully and ensuring artists are recognised for their contributions.
